Your Wedding on Social Media

In this day in age just about everyone is on social media in some form or another. Each couple is entitled to their own view on how they want their wedding to be perceived on the social media outlets out there. Some couples may prefer to keep a low profile on social media, and that's OK. It is completely understandable that you may not want surprises to be ruined by other guests posts or have low-quality iPhone photos flood social media when you are expecting top notch professional shots that you paid a small fortune for. Couples looking to keep their wedding day tech-free, consider politely conveying this information on your wedding website and then again with a small note on the ceremony programs (so that less tech-savvy guests get the memo too!). If you really want to ensure guests get the message, ask the officiant to make a quick announcement before the ceremony begins. Try explaining to your guests that you want to enjoy the moment with them not through their phone. You can also consider having a cute sign made up for you welcome table or near the ceremony entrance like these two below;

On the opposite side of this issue, some folks embrace their guests use of social media for their wedding. Which can also be lots of fun and give your wedding a personal touch, it can also reach those guests you may not have been able to attend. There are lots of cute ideas for incorporating social media into your wedding day. A great one is the wedding hashtag, this your guests can use on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and create a wedding feed of your day. I see a lot of brides use this one because it is as easy as making up a sign.

This is a new trend I've found which is super cute! A sort of hybrid photo booth, a selfie station. Set up a sign and a few props and bam! Wedding selfies.

Bridal Henna Party!

How fun would it be to throw a bridal henna party! Have an artist give you and all your bridesmaids matching or mismatching henna tattoos while you get ready for the wedding! Historic Wedding Venue

The Castaway House in Islamorada is one of our favorite venues for events here in the upper keys. The property is well suited for both a large and small event. It has a huge beachfront overlooking the sparkling Atlantic Ocean with a white sandy walk-in beach, which as you may or may not know is a rare thing down here. It also has plenty of space for parking in the front and a shaded area on the beach for the ceremony.  The house on the property is a super cute honeymoon cottage, that not only looks like a boat but actually is a boat! This property has a long history here in Islamorada making it a historic wedding venue.  Here is a little bit about how this boat house came to be, a story told to me by Lisa Bradeen who is involved with the Islamorada Historical Society.

Clara Maw Downey first bought the boat and put it on her property of The Olney Inn. It then blew onto Preston Street during Hurricane Donna and Jim Gilmore (who had purchased the property already) dragged it on rollers to where it is today and used it as a winter house for his Family.  Mr. Gilmore was from Kalamazoo, Michigan and was the owner of Gilmore/Foyt Racing Team, as in AJ Foyt, Indy Winner 3 times  and owned Clear Channel stations and was big in the broadcasting industry. The Gilmore Family still owns the property today.

Mr. Gilmore was  involved with  the original World Wide Sportsman with George Hommell &  The Green Turtle Inn.  Doris Hommell was the caretaker of the property for many years. She bought the house that Joe & Debbie live in for $1.00 from Mr. Gilmore and turned it into a Flower/Nursery shop which was very successful in the 80's.  I worked with Doris for 5 years during that time. It was a glorious time decorating all the homes  & restaurants in Islamorada.

President Truman  and his wife with their friend & guest,  Edward R Morrow vacationed there in the late 50's. President Truman fished with Bucky Stark then. Mrs. Truman did not fish.

The property is for sale as of present for 5 million.
